Oh, we had such a good time! Even though it was SO COLD in Florida. We got to bike (some) anyway . . . and of course, we got to eat lots of good food.
As I'm fond of saying, food is one of the greatest pleasures of life. We all have to live a little -- everything in moderation (including moderation). So, yes . . . when I'm on vacation, I eat more. We both love to eat out, and this vacation we visited some excellent restaurants: Eli's Barbecue. Little Moir's Food Shack. Rigatoni's Tuscan Grill. La Teresita. All worth it, every single bite!
So, what am I doing now? Well . . . taking care of some extra Christmas/vacation weight. I left on vacation weighing 135 . . . this morning (we got back last night) I was 139. This is typical for me.
I don't much like eating at the 1400 calorie level, but that seems like a good compromise right now. My base is 1900, and 1200 is just too low. I don't like being hungry. So, I'm keeping my food volume high (as Weight Watchers and "Volumetrics" teach) but reducing my caloric density. And, of course, I'm exercising. Inside . . . it's just way too cold to bike outdoors right now. I bit the bullet this evening and hit my first spin class in many months.
I'm thinking a training program is also in order: I just got Chris Carmichael's "The Time-Crunched Cyclist" to help me map out a plan to become a faster cyclist in 2010.
Plus, I think this is really going to be a bad winter. I've already had to shovel 20" of snow (a 4-hour job), and I think there's going to be more coming. Snow shoveling can be really aerobic, if you do it right.
I'll let you know how I'm doing.
